Hocking College student accused of mutilating cat
LOGAN — Hocking College law enforcement student Bryan Able, 18, of Xenia, pled not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty on Friday.
Controlled fires planned for Wayne National Forest
NELSONVILLE — Fire management personnel for the U.S. Forest Service, Wayne National Forest, Athens and Ironton Ranger Districts are planning to conduct prescribed burning operations during the month of November starting Sunday, Nov. 8. Firefighters will base most of their decision to burn on current and forecasted weather conditions, such as wind speed and direction, relative humidity, and temperature.
Students attend Business Professionals conference
`Twenty-three students in Mrs. Evans’ Office Professional program attended the Business Professionals of America (BPA) State Leadership Conference in Columbus, Nov. 4. Students had the opportunity to network with others in BPA, experience interactive team building, learn how to set effective goals and sharpen their communication skills. In addition to attending the leadership workshops, students elected the 2010 state officer team.
Athens police spend day with fashion students
Recently, Rick Crossen from the Athens Police Department conducted a shoplifting seminar for the Tri-County Career Center fashion marketing students. The fashion students require store management and employee theft skills before working in the retailing industry. Officer Crossen covered shoplifting profiles, theft tactics, consequences and store profitability issues. Officer Crossen used role playing scenarios, actual shoplifting videos and scare tactics to educate and deter the future business leaders from involvement. Tri-County Career Center fashion marketing students prepare for store management and entrepreneurship placements within the clothing industry. Shoplifting is a serious component of all business activities. The students were awarded shoplifting seminar completion documents at the end of the day.
