Law You Can Use: Ohio's adoption law now allows advertising

Major changes to Ohio’s adoption law became effective on March 23, 2015. Changes include new time limits and a notification option for birth fathers, an increase in the state tax credit, a reduction in the window for contesting adoptions, new guidelines for birth mother living expenses and permission to advertise.

Social Security evolution

The first typewriter to be commercially successful was invented on June 23, 1868. One hundred years later, Social Security still used the same technology to type Social Security cards, envelopes, forms, and applications. This system required thousands of employees to create, maintain, transmit, and file the folder for each current and future beneficiary by hand to ensure accurate payments to retirees and disability beneficiaries.

When I started my involvement at FairHoPe as a patient care volunteer in March of 1997, I had no idea of what I was getting into. It all began when I saw a one-inch square ad in the paper stating that hospice was seeking volunteers. When I read that seemingly insignificant entry in the paper, I knew immediately that it was something I had to do. However, I knew very little about hospice, and all that I thought I knew was scary.

My column of May 22nd was written while my tongue was firmly jammed into my cheek. In it, I pretended to be talking to a liberal, socialist President we sent to Washington twice. I mean, you sent to Washington twice. I had no part in it.

Let the fun begin! We are rapidly heading toward peak travel season. As soon as all the graduation parties and Little League games are wrapped up, families will be hitting the road in record numbers. According to Skift.com, the largest industry intelligence and marketing platform in travel, “U.S. domestic summer travel is projected to reach a 10 year high”.

Historic conference can strengthen protection and health for seniors

Recently, the White House hosted its fourth regional forum in Cleveland as a lead up to its 2015 Conference on Aging slated to be held sometime this summer. The White House Conference on Aging occurs once every decade and has for the past 50 years. Having been involved in three White House Conferences, two in leadership roles, I can attest to the importance of the event both for for generating ideas and developing improvements in many of the government programs that affect seniors including Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and others.
