As of 6:32 p.m., 13,708 households in Hocking County are without power, 10,143 of which are American Electric Power customers. 3,565 of them are South Central Power customers.

The number of those without power have been increasing throughout the evening hours, and as of 3:45 p.m., 9,300 AEP customers in Hocking County were without power.

The Logan Daily News and downtown Logan are without power, as is a majority of Nelsonville in Athens County. Hocking College evening classes have been canceled for Logan and Nelsonville campuses. Ohio University Lanaster also canceled its evening classes due to power outages.

AEP officials have attributed the outages to storm damage and hot, humid weather that caused high electrical demand and resulting problems with the transmission grid.

AEP has not estimated when power will be restored.
