LEWIS CENTER — After beating Liberty Union 1-0 for their second-straight soccer victory on Saturday, the Logan Chieftains learned on Sunday they would be traveling to Columbus for their opening-round Central District Division I tournament match.
Logan (4-5-4), seeded No. 37 out of 43 teams, travels to No. 32 seed Columbus Whetstone (8-5-1) for its opening-round contest next Wednesday, Oct. 17 (7 p.m.).
Whetstone is 8-2-1 against Columbus City League foes but has dropped its three non-conference matches (to Groveport, Westland and Canal Winchester) by a combined score of 12-1.
The winner will be rewarded with a sectional final contest at Olentangy Liberty (13-0), which is not only the top seed in the Central District tournament but the top-ranked DI team in the state as well. Liberty has outscored its opponents 63-7 this fall, winning eight matches via shutout.
Sunday's draw was held at Olentangy High School.
The Chiefs conclude their regular season this week with a home match Thursday against Warren and a non-league game Saturday night at Alexander.
