ALBANY - Coach Rick Nelson was just as pleased with his team's defense as its 45-point scoring output in a 45-9 seventh-grade girls basketball romp over host Alexander Monday night.

"Our defense came up big, with most of our scoring coming off turnovers," Nelson said. "Bethany Gates turned many turnovers and rebounds into fast-break opportunities."

Gates had a team-high 17 points and eight assists as the Logan girls rolled to quarter leads of 12-2, 23-7 and 33-9 before shutting out the Lady Spartans 12-0 in the final stanza.

Abbie Hughes added 12 points for the winners, with Katie Hosler scoring eight and Ashley McCort, Jerrica O'Harra, Mackenzie Dicken and Mariah Wright all adding two. Hughes had six steals and Gates contributed three.

The Logan seventh-graders (3-1 on the season) play at Jackson this evening.
