Dear Editor,

A Developmental Disabilities levy will appear on the Nov. 5 ballot as an additional one and a half mill, 10-year levy. This levy will support the operation of Hocking County Board of DD, which provides support and service coordination to individuals and their families in this community who have developmental disabilities and delays.

Money generated from this levy will maintain our quality services for children and adults throughout Hocking County, as well as expanding programs where possible. When you consider all the services provided to the entire county and to children and adults of all ages, it’s a reasonable request. We are proud that our cost per enrollee is less than the state average, despite a 30 percent increase in costs over the last five years, and 75 percent increase over the last 10 years.

We know that times are tough. We are aware of homeowners, including senior citizens, who are on a fixed income, and we are pleased we can keep our millage relatively low for this reason. It will cost the owner of a $100,000 home 14 cents per day to maintain services in our community for children and adults with DD.

This levy will be helping our entire community, including senior citizens. Think of those parents in their golden years who have an adult child who needs our services. What would they do without these services? We also provide services to senior citizens who have DD. What would they do if services were substandard, or worse, not available? There are few alternatives.

Please vote “Yes” for DD Services in Hocking County. So many people depend on it. Help People Live Their Best Life.
