SHAWNEE — On Friday, Dec. 7 the Village of Shawnee will come alive with the spirit of the season as members of the Destination Shawnee, in cooperation with Village officials, will host its traditional Small Town Christmas celebration.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. with the tree lighting at Saltlick Memorial Park. Members of the Hemlock Community Church will sing Christmas Carols from 6:15 until 6:45 p.m. Destination Shawnee will provide the Christmas tree and lights. Also making a repeat appearance will be Mike Steinmous with “Ebony” the llama, who will be visiting with the crowd.
Following the tree lighting guests will be invited to Tecumseh Theater where local historian Rob Dishon will share the history of the snowman from 6:45 to 7 p.m.
Free refreshments of hot chocolate, coffee, water, cookies and popcorn will be available throughout the evening.
Local singer Randy Gleason will close out the evening from 7 to 8 p.m. with a variety of holiday songs and other music.
During the evening the Shawnee Mercantile and Winding Road Market Place store will be open for holiday shoppers.
