ATHENS — The Athens County Prosecutor’s Office has established comprehensive programs to address the addiction issues our State faces as part of their ongoing Community Justice initiative.
The Community Justice initiative was established in 2014 with a Parent Support Group beginning in February 2018. The support group was established to assist the parents of individuals that have experience with substance misuse. Due to the ongoing challenges with COVID-19 the Parent Support Group cannot conduct in person meetings at this time; however, a conference call line has been established in order to meet the needs of the community.
Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn said, “We are trying this comprehensive approach to overcome the addiction crisis the country faces. We must examine helping not just the individual, but the secondary trauma a family faces as well.”
Currently the office is finding ways to maintain support for the community during the current stay-at-home order. We look forward to getting back to face-to-face meetings, but in the interim, we are doing what we can to provide guidance and help during this time of extreme isolation.
The monthly Parent Support Group meeting will host a community call on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at 6 p.m. Anyone may join the call by dialing: 740-592-0155 using the conference i.d. 55515 and PIN 1234#.
