NELSONVILLE — The inaugural “Fare on the Square” event hosted by Rocky Brands and the Rocky Community Improvement Fund (RCIF) on June 27 raised more than $40,000 for the Southeastern Ohio Food Bank.
The event featured a dinner on the Nelsonville public square prepared by Master Chef Alfonso Contrisciani for 130 donors, sponsors and patrons. A silent auction was also held featuring items donated by business and organizations in the community.
“For more than 10 years, the Rocky Community Improvement Fund has raised funds to support the communities in Nelsonville and surrounding areas,” said Stephen Crook, who oversees the RCIF for Rocky Brands in addition to his role as a senior reporting analyst.
“Fare on the Square was a new event for 2019, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. We owe a special thanks to all of the businesses and organizations who supported this, and we hope everyone had an enjoyable evening on the square,” he added.
A quarter of the donation to the Southeastern Ohio Food Bank will go to the organization’s capital fund, while the remaining 75 percent will be used to supply food pantries in communities throughout the region to assist with food insecurities.
Donations and support from a wide range of local businesses contributed to the success of the event. OhioHealth served as a Diamond Platter partner, and the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation agreed to match the RCIF donation to the Southeastern Ohio Food Bank.
RCIF will present the donation to the Southeastern Ohio Food Bank later this month.
