Shrivers Pharmacy has announced that it is now providing monoclonal antibody treatment for COVID-positive patients. Shrivers reports that it was the first pharmacy in the state to get approved to provide this service.
According to an informational flier from the pharmacy, monoclonal antibodies such as REGEN-COV are lab-made antibodies that can be administered at an outpatient facility with the intent of preventing serious illness and hospitalization due to COVID-19, as well as for post-exposure prophylaxis to prevent development of symptoms in unvaccinated or partially vaccinated people who have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
What does it cost?
Currently, Shrivers is only in contact with Medicare to administer monoclonal antibodies. With Medicare coverage there is no cost to the patient. Shrivers is actively pursuing additional insurance contracts; contact them for more information on insurance billing updates.
General eligibility requirements
You must be 12 years of age or older and weigh at least 88 pounds.
Treatment of COVID-19 – additional requirements
The treatment is recommended for COVID-positive individuals within 10 days of symptom onset, who have a confirmed positive COVID–19 test, and are at increased risk of hospitalization from COVID-19.
Additional requirements for prevention after exposure
Eligible individuals are those who are at high risk for progression to severe COVID–19, including hospitalization or death, and are not fully vaccinated, or who are not expected to mount an adequate immune response to complete SARS–Cov–2 vaccination (for example, individuals with immunocompromising conditions including those taking immunosuppression medications), and have been exposed to an individual infected with SARS–Cov–2 consistent with close contact criteria per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or who are at high risk of exposure to an individual infected with SARS–Cov–2 because of occurrence of SARS–Cov–2 infection in other individuals in the same institutional setting (for example, nursing homes, prisons).
Shrivers Pharmavy provides this treatment in the comfort of your own home. Once they receive your assessment a clinician will contact you with your appointment date and time. You must be eligible to receive this treatment and reside in a county containing a participating Shrivers Pharmacy location.
