LOGAN – Logan Police are investigating an apparent hit-skip incident that left a 54-year-old man dead, according to a news release on the department’s Facebook page Wednesday.
On Tuesday at approximately 8:50 a.m., the release says, Hocking County 911 received a call regarding a male subject lying in the roadway on Motherwell Avenue, near the intersection of Gallagher Avenue.
Units from the Logan Police Department, Logan Fire Department and Hocking County EMS responded to the location. A 54-year-old male, later identified as Duane K. Thompson of Logan, was found dead in the roadway with injuries consistent with having been hit by a motor vehicle.
Detectives responded to the scene and began to process evidence, interview potential witnesses, and obtain video camera footage from nearby businesses. Patrol units began to search the area. A short time later, an officer located the vehicle involved in the incident near the intersection of Hunter Street and West Street. A driver was identified and interviewed by detectives. The vehicle was photographed and processed for additional evidence.
A crash re-construction investigator from the Ohio State Highway Patrol arrived at the accident location to conduct technical crash analysis of the incident and digitally map physical evidence at the scene. Additionally, The Hocking County Coroner’s Office personnel arrived to collect evidence and took possession of Thompson’s body.
