LOGAN — More than two dozen former football captains have already made plans to attend the inaugural “Captains Appreciation Day” scrimmage next Saturday, Aug. 17, in Logan Chieftain Stadium.
What was originally planned as an inter-squad event has been changed to a scrimmage against Fairfield Union beginning at 10 a.m.
After next Saturday, the Chiefs host Marietta Friday, Aug. 23, in the annual OHSAA Jamboree scrimmage to complete their pre-season schedule.
Coach Mike Eddy’s first Logan team begins its regular season Friday, Aug. 30, at Tri-Valley.
Former Chieftain captains are invited to attend. They will be introduced to current players at 7:30 a.m., followed by an 8 a.m. practice in which returning captains are welcome to be on the field and watch drills.
Returning captains will be on the sidelines with the current Chiefs and at the conclusion of the scrimmage (around noon) they will be welcome to address the current team and share stories and encouragement with the 2019 Chieftains.
Logan Chieftain sports historian Spencer Waugh, whose extensive football research includes a list of all-time captains, is working on a list of mail/email addresses for those captains.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to email Waugh at firstname.lastname@example.org to get on the mailing list.
