LANCASTER — Kohen Maynard’s three-pointer with 22 seconds remaining lifted the Logan eighth-grade boys basketball team to a thrilling, season-opening 34-33 victory Tuesday night at Lancaster Sherman.
The Chiefs went scoreless in the second quarter as Sherman forged an 11-5 halftime lead and the home team led 24-20 entering the final six minutes.
Aiden St. Clair hit a trio of three-pointers in the second half as Logan rallied and Noah Swart and Trevor Atkins both netted key free throws as the Purple & White closed within 33-31 in the late going.
Maynard, who led the winners with 14 points, put Logan ahead with his late triple and the Logan defense kept Sherman from attempting a shot in the final seconds to clinch the victory.
St. Clair added 10 points for the winners, with Swart scoring five, Atkins three and Emerson Sowers two. Logan coach Jonathan Hughes praised Sowers for his defensive work in shutting down Sherman’s top scorer.
