LOGAN — Coming off three-straight losses in as many days earlier in the week, the Logan Lady Chiefs rebounded nicely for a 5-0 tennis victory Saturday at Zanesville.
The tables got turned on Monday, however, as visiting Logan Elm earned a 5-0 shutout win over the Lady Chiefs on the LHS tennis courts.
At Zanesville, “We got up 2-0 with Rachel (Vogt) and first doubles winning comfortably,” said Logan coach Robbie Ball, “and then the last three courts were all in their third set, so it was plausible we could still lose the match. But the opposite happened and we ended up pulling out all three of them. Great fight for a Saturday morning match.”
Vogt beat Katelyn McMillion 6-2, 6-0, Jazmin Kessler rallied past Molly Kapper 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 and Selena Zheng climbed back to knock off Ashton Hillbrum 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 in singles play.
Logan also swept the Lady Devils in doubles as Carmen Shuttleworth and Maisey Russell beat Kalie Mayle and Madison Shlub 6-2, 6-1 and Addy Clement and Samantha Mustard earned a comeback 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 triumph over Amyla Youkley and Empelia Johnson.
Emily Clifton also won a reserve singles match by an 8-1 count.
On Monday, Logan Elm won four of the five matches with the Lady Chiefs in two sets with the exception of Vogt, who forced the Lady Braves’ Keller Clouse into an ultimate three-set match at first singles.
“They are a solid team,” Ball said of the Lady Braves. “Rachel pushed (Clouse) to a super tiebreaker but came up a little short.”
Clouse prevailed 6-2, 3-6, 10-6. In addition, Ella Bennington defeated Kessler 6-0, 6-1 and Hope Akers downed Zheng 6-2, 6-2 in the other singles matches.
Matti Smith and Hope Miller defeated Russell and Mustard 6-0, 6-1 and Brooke Anderson and Jessica Platz downed Clement and Clifton 6-2, 6-2 in doubles.
The Lady Chiefs (4-9) have a home contest against Vinton County on Thursday.
