LEWIS CENTER, Ohio – Huge accomplishment over the weekend for Logan senior Alleana Brown as she advanced to the inaugural Ohio High School Athletic Association’s girls state wrestling championships.
This was native territory for Brown, as this is her third consecutive trip to a state wrestling championship. The previous two were when the event was sponsored by the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association.
In 2021, as a sophomore, she won the states and last year finished as the runner-up. Brown, who is in the 145-pound’s third-place bracket, finished third in the regional tournament that was held at Olentangy Orange High School this past Sunday.
Things started off pretty well for Brown, as she earned an opening match victory over Worthington Kilbourne freshman Camille Chabannes in just 1:09.
Next up was the quarterfinal match against Watterson sophomore Lucia Lardo, who fought hard and got a pin on Alleana in 3:46. This result knocked the Logan senior down into that third-place bracket of her weight class.
Ashland Crestview junior Tarynn Eagle was first up for Brown in the bracket and she took care of business, winning the match in under a minute (57 seconds).
Next was a scrappy freshman, Skylar Hopstetter from Mapleton High School, who had to win a couple matches to get through the bracket after dropping her first match of the day. Brown would prevail in this match in 2:31 to reach the semifinals where then she would get a walkover victory.
This is because her next opponent, freshman Reegan Knapp of Pickerington North, had to retire due to injury. That guaranteed Brown a spot in the state tournament and also put her in the third-place bracket finals against Emma Watkins, a junior from Watkins Memorial.
Brown won that match, earning a pin in 1:50 and now will try and bottle up some of that momentum for the states being held Friday through Sunday at the Schottenstein Center at The Ohio State University.
