LOGAN — Three Logan Chieftains have been named to the Southeast District Baseball Coaches Association’s all-star team.

Junior Charlie Kline was a first-team honoree, with senior Layton Cassady tabbed to the second team and senior Trey Slack accorded honorable mention on the Division I-II squad.

All three honorees had big seasons at the plate for the Purple & White, who went 8-17 on the season.

Kline led the team in batting (.493), doubles (seven) and runs scored (24) while also hitting two triples and driving in 13 runs. His 45 total bases, 1.236 on base/slugging percentage and seven stolen bases also paced the Chiefs.

Cassady led the Chieftains in runs batted in (17) and hits (35) while hitting at a .407 clip with six doubles and 19 runs scored.

Slack came on strong at the end of the season to bat .323 with 20 hits, three doubles, 15 RBI and 13 runs scored. He led the team with eight steals.

Players of note joining Kline on the first team were Nate Trainer of Athens, Seth Dennis of Warren, Brice Graham of Jackson, Ash Abele of Vinton County and Reece Trowbridge and Drew Campbell of Sheridan.

Among those named to the second team along with Cassady were Jack Cornwell and Nick Barga of Athens, Garrett McGuire and Josh Faro of Gallia Academy, Evan Gandee of Warren, Ethan Malone of Sheridan and Ryan Huffman of Logan Elm

Honorable mention choices of note were Rece Lonas and Eli Kennedy of Athens, Wyatt Sipple of Gallia Academy, Jacob Wells and D.J. Norris of Vinton County, Kurt Taylor and Noah Edgell of Warren, Ty Broemann and Caleb Haller of Jackson, Logan Farmer of Sheridan and Hayden Higginbotham of Logan Elm.

Ryan Lemley of Warren and Brian Bigam of Circleville earned Coach of the Year honors.
