LOGAN – Spring and the warm weather are quickly approaching, which means baseball season is on the horizon.
This year Logan will be led by a new head coach, Andrew Barrell, who has big plans for baseball, not only at the school but also in the Logan community.
In February, during those first couple Saturdays of the month, Barrell and the Logan High School baseball team held a youth baseball camp for second- to sixth-grade boys. During this camp, coach Barrell worked through individual drills with the kids, focusing on pitching, hitting, and fielding skills.
All of the profits from that event went towards the youth program he is starting up, which is set to begin this month.
Tryouts will be held Tuesday, March 14 at the Logan High School baseball field from 5:30 to 7 pm. There will be three different Logan teams: ages eight and under, which will be a coach pitch league, 10 and under, and a 12 and under team.
These teams will participate in five tournaments that will be held from April 14–June 11. Twelve to 13 players will be kept on each team and be guaranteed playing time in each game. Also, the 12 and under team will be competing to qualify for a spot in the state and national tournaments.
The cost will be $150 per player and covers the costs of all the tournaments, uniforms, and umpire fees. If this is something you and your family are interested in, you can contact Logan Head Coach Andrew Barrell by phone at (740)-603-1269 or by email abarrell@lhsd.k12.oh.us for more information.
