LOGAN — Even on a night they struggled shooting the ball, the Logan eighth-grade boys basketball team fell about a half-minute short of a victory Wednesday evening.
Visiting Lancaster Sherman hit the game-winning bucket with 33 seconds left to edge the young Chiefs 20-19 in the Logan-Hocking Middle School gym.
In a close, back-and-forth game, Logan led 5-4 and 9-8 at the first-half stops before the Fairfield Countians took a 16-14 edge into the final period.
There, Logan came back to take a 19-18 lead before Sherman hit the game-winning basket to avenge a one-point loss to the Purple & White last week.
Emerson Sowers and Sawyer Magdich led the Chiefs (1-1) with seven and six points, respectively, with Noah Swart, Ryan Myers and Ayden St. Clair all chipping in two.
